NAHRO’s Summer Conference Showcases Education and Innovation
The National Association of Housing and Redevelopment Officials (NAHRO) will be holding its 2017 NAHRO Summer Conference: Strengthening Our Foundation, from July 16-18 at the Indianapolis Marriott Downtown Hotel in Indianapolis, Indiana.
The conference offers more than 20 concurrent sessions focused on current and emerging issues in the affordable housing and community development (HCD) industry, including the Rental Assistance Demonstration (RAD) program, public health and public housing, innovative strategies for resident and community involvement, August Advocacy tips and strategies, and more. Other educational opportunities include an affordable housing tour conducted by local hosts the Indianapolis Housing Authority, a plenary session address from Dr. Gloria Wilder, a screening and post-film discussion of Ava DuVernay’s documentary 13th, and a special dinner theater presentation of The Projects by the American Theater Company. Professional development opportunities such as seminars and certification examinations are also available.
“After years of attending NAHRO conferences as a practitioner and learner,” said NAHRO CEO Adrianne Todman, “I am excited to be the other side of the curtain, leading the team behind this wonderful educational and networking experience.”
The conference will also honor 72 housing and community development agencies who have won NAHRO’s prestigious Awards of Merit for their innovative programs that address the needs of our nation’s most vulnerable and improve our neighborhoods and communities nationwide. NAHRO President Steve Merritt says, “These organizations demonstrate that the best solutions are often locally initiated and implemented, and that they are committed to serving their communities through groundbreaking programs and services that address local needs and opportunities.”
