NAHRO Submits Joint Letter with Industry Groups on Regulatory Streamlining
On Monday, March 31, NAHRO, along with our industry partners PHADA, CLPHA, and the MTW Collaborative, sent a letter to the Department of Housing and Urban Development with recommendations to streamline HUD programs. The letter provided small but impactful changes that would improve cross-cutting programs, like HOTMA, the 30-Day Rule, and Build America, Buy America (BABA), expanded flexibilities for PHAs, and empowering PHAs to implement innovative policies. The letter also recommended improvements to non-PIH programs, including PBRA and HOME.
The letter further asks HUD to work collaboratively with Congress to reform and streamline statutory requirements, ensuring that PHAs have the necessary local flexibility to operate programs effectively and efficiently.
NAHRO remains committed to advocating for commonsense regulatory streamlining that empowers PHAs to better serve their communities. Overly prescriptive regulations create unnecessary burdens, reduce efficiency, and increase costs. Greater flexibility is essential to addressing local housing challenges. Supporting innovative policies can improve program operations to ensure stronger, more sustainable housing solutions.
