HUD Announces $40 Million for Legal Assistance Program to Prevent Evictions

On July 11, HUD announced $40 million in competitive grant funds for the Eviction Protection Grant Program (EPGP), which helps to provide free legal assistance to support low-income tenants at risk of or facing eviction.

The Department anticipates providing approximately 25 awards, ranging from $500,000 to $2.5 million. Eligible applicants include state and local governments, nonprofits with 501(c)(3) status, and institutions of higher education. Both current grantees and new applicants will be considered.

The deadline to submit an application is August 20, 2024.
