$6.5 Million in Choice Neighborhoods Planning Grants Awarded

On September 10, HUD announced $6.5 million in Choice Neighborhoods Planning Grants to 13 communities nationwide, including the first ever Tribal Nation to receive a Choice Neighborhoods grant.

According to HUD, each recipient will receive a $500,000 grant to create a comprehensive neighborhood “Transformation Plan” to modernize existing HUD housing; improve workforce, health and education outcomes for residents; and attract long-term public and private reinvestment to promote economic development.

Among those chosen, 10 of the 13 are NAHRO members. They are: the Housing Authority of the Birmingham District; City Phoenix; City of Tucson; City of Oxnard; Yolo County Housing Authority; Housing Authority of Joliet; Poughkeepsie Housing Authority; Johnstown Housing Authority; Houston Housing Authority; and Bristol Redevelopment and Housing Authority.
