FHLBank San Francisco Names Marietta Núñez Community Investment Officer
On February 15, 2018, the Federal Home Loan Bank of San Francisco has named Vice President Marietta Núñez Community Investment Officer. She succeeds Jim Yacenda, who retired on February 2.
Marietta Núñez joined the bank in 1998. She launched the bank’s first-time homebuyer matching grant programs, which have delivered over $85 million to help low- and moderate-income families become homeowners. She also designed the bank’s AHEAD Program, which has provided over $11.4 million in grants for economic development initiatives benefiting lower-income communities. She has worked with the competitive Affordable Housing Program (AHP) since 1998.
Ms. Núñez received an M.B.A. from the Anderson School of Management at U.C.L.A. and a law degree from the University Complutense of Madrid, Spain, and has received a Distinguished Leadership Award from the Congressional Hispanic Caucus for increasing homeownership opportunities in the Latino community.
Wendy Burke, Paul Votto Join National Center for Housing Management Leadership
On February 14, 2018, The Board of Directors of the National Center for Housing Management (NCHM) announced today that Wendy Burke has been elected to replace her father, John J. Burke, Jr., as Chair and that Paul Votto has been appointed as President of the organization.
“I am very excited to build on the solid foundation my father established in his more than thirtysix years as Chair of NCHM,” said Wendy Burke. “I am also thrilled to join up again with Paul Votto. I have known and worked with Paul for more than thirty years and have always valued his judgment, philosophy and approach,” added Burke. “I know he will do an outstanding job leading NCHM into a bright future.”
Mr. Burke is a prominent Wisconsin real estate developer and philanthropist who served as chairman and CEO of NCHM from 1981 until his recent resignation. Wendy Burke is president of Burke Properties, the real estate development and property management company founded by her father in 1968.
Mr. Votto was the National Director of Housing Programs at NCHM from 2013 until his appointment as President. He also served as Executive Vice President of the organization in the 1980s. Mr. Votto has held a number of private sector positions in the real estate development and management industries. He is a Fellow in the American Academy of Housing and Communities and is a well-regarded educator and advisor to public and private clients. Mr. Votto replaces Glenn Stevens, who had been president of NCHM since 1996.
RIP: William Charles Thorson
On Wednesday, Feb. 28, 2018, William C.Thorson passed away. Born in Munich, Germany, he resided in Springfield, Va. at the time of his death.
He spent 35 years at the Department of Housing and Urban Development, including a stint as the Director of the Office of Capital Improvements, and was also a NAHRO Faculty member. After his retirement from HUD, he spent another 10 years as a consultant with Thorson and Associates, LLC in order to fulfill his passion for public housing.
