NAHRO’s Certified Certified Manager of Property Operations (CMPO) designation demonstrates that an individual has the knowledge, skills and ability necessary for
- Defining “High Performance Manager”
- Understanding key competencies as they relate to improved managerial effectiveness
- Reflecting on their unique management and communication styles and exploring the effects of their approaches to managing and communicating
- Identifying and practicing skills that contribute to creating high performance work environments
- Applying critical thinking and problem-solving techniques
How do I become a NAHRO Certified Manager of Property Operations (CMPO)
NAHRO has two paths to becoming Certified! Please refer to the chart below to determine the path that works best for you.
Certification Requirements
Education & Experience | High School Diploma or Equivalent AND 6 months of experience OR Associates degree and above (without the 6 months of experience) |
Specialist Training | Completion of NAHRO’s High-Performance Management Training, along with thirty-eight (38) additional hours of NAHRO training. |
Ethics Training | Completion of NAHRO’s Ethics for Management Training |
Exam | Passing Score on NAHRO’s Certified Manager of Property Operations (CMPO) Certification Exam |
Application | Submission of Certification Application |
Requirement to waive the management training and sit for the exam:
To waive the management training requirement, participants must have ten (10) or more years of (any combination) experience OR seven (7) or more years of experience (in a management position) in property management within the public sector. Roles that may be considered are HCV Program/Asset/Property Manager, Deputy Director, and Department Director. They must also have demonstrated knowledge in all the following:
- The federally required rules and regulations as they pertain to the industry
- The critical nature of property management and care of the asset
- A talent for marketing and continued occupancy of a residential community
- Management of day-to-day operations, including staffing and maintenance, of a residential community
- Completion of compliance related responsibilities of all programs or financing requirements of the community
- Requirements of modernization and capital improvements of a community
- Management of budgets, capital needs assessments, procurement, and reserves for the community
NOTE: Individuals waiving the management training still have the following requirements:

Recertification:
2.0 NAHRO CEUs (20 training hours) required every 3 years from date of certification
