Board of Governors
The NAHRO Board of Governors is a vital institution with a distinguished record of public and professional service. As the policy-making body of NAHRO, it is responsible for all major decisions of the Association. The principal activities of the Board include:
- Establishing policy
- Setting goals and objectives
- Approving annual and long-term financial and work plans
- Providing leadership and support for Association programs and policies
- Acting on recommendations from the regions, chapters, national committees, and advisory committees
The Board of Governors is composed of the following members: President, Senior Vice President, Vice Presidents with Portfolio, three Immediate Past Presidents, Regional Presidents, Immediate Past Regional Presidents, 16 Regional Members-at-Large, three Presidential Members-at-Large; ex officio members, including: Chairs of BECT, Small Agency Advisory Committee, Legislative Network Advisory Committee, Strategic Planning Advisory Committee, Conferences Advisory Committee, Education Advisory Committee, Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Advisory Committee, Housing America Advisory Committee, Corporate Members Council Chair, Housing and Development Law Institute Representative, and the parliamentarian is appointed at the discretion of the President.
The Steering Committee is available for consultation and advice as needed. Its primary role is to implement existing policy and provide guidance to the President when there is no specific policy in place or when action is required to amend current policy. Occasionally, the Board may authorize the Steering Committee to act on its behalf regarding specific issues, especially when a decision is anticipated between Board meetings. The following Board members serve on the Steering Committee: the President, the Senior Vice President, the Vice Presidents with portfolio, the three Immediate Past Presidents serving as Board members, and the Regional Presidents.
