Rep. Clay Introduces “Housing America Month” Resolution

As the nationwide affordable housing crisis continues, a resolution acknowledges the importance of federal housing programs and those who implement them.

(Washington, D.C. – October 29, 2019)– On October 28, Congressman William Lacy Clay (D-Missouri) introduced H. Res. 658, a resolution that expresses support for the designation of “Housing America Month” and “honors the importance of our Nation’s housing and community development programs,” on the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives.

“Affordable housing for low- and moderate-income Americans must become a national priority again,” said Congressman Clay, who is the Chairman of the House Financial Services Subcommittee on Housing, Community Development, and Insurance. “I’m proud to pledge my support for, and commitment to, our federal housing and community development programs.”

This resolution marks the first time that Congress has recognized Housing America Month, which the National Association of Housing and Redevelopment Officials (NAHRO) has celebrated in October for more than a decade. “We are so humbled and honored by this Congressional resolution,” said NAHRO President Sunny Shaw. “This recognizes not only the hard work of tens of thousands of housers and community builders across the nation, but also the families and neighborhoods that they serve.”

“NAHRO is grateful to Congressman Clay for introducing this resolution, which recognizes Housing America Month and acknowledges the amazing art of the youth who share with us what home means to them,” said NAHRO CEO Adrianne Todman. “We look forward to continuing to work with Congressional leadership on supporting the programs that this resolution honors.”
