HUD Redesigns Website
By: Tushar Gurjal, Senior Policy Manager
On March 31, 2025, HUD instituted a redesign of its website. In a press release, Secretary Turner states “[t]he new HUD.gov . . . continues to build on our pledge to be mission-minded and fulfill our statutory responsibilities while efficiently and effectively providing vital information to the American public.” The redesign occurred after a process to research and analyze traffic to the website that included representatives from all HUD program offices. The Department states that “ . . . less than 5% of HUD.gov’s total pages made up 80% of all web traffic, yet the website had 9,200 web pages, 123,000 documents, and 19 program office microsites, each with its own separate confusing navigation.” The new website includes “a 90% reduction in content from the previous website, with information organized into three easy-to-navigate categories: Helping Americans, HUD Partners, and Researchers.”
At this time, some critical information appears to no longer exist on the website including–but not limited to– the following: HUD’s two-year tool for the voucher program; links to program dashboards; the capital fund and operating fund websites; information on special purpose vouchers; certain datasets; and certain other resources, training documents, frequently-asked-questions documents, and guidance documents.
We have learned that HUD is aware of the issue and will be creating an inventory of items that need to be restored and will be working to restore them to the website. NAHRO will continue to monitor the website as these steps are taken.
