Privilege, Bias, & Debiasing Systems
Description:
Participants will look at how privilege and bias impact design, implementation and choice making in housing and community development programs. After a quick review of the concepts of implicit bias that affect systems of privilege, there will be an overview of the concepts of privilege, white privilege (dominant culture privilege), and the concept of system debiasing.
Objectives:
After completing this training, participants will be able to:
- Recognize how stereotypes, In Group/Out Group, and other concepts form the base of systems of privilege.
- Recall the many forms of privilege that exist and how privilege is relative.
- Review operations and systems to reduce the impact of dominant culture bias.
