Statement from NAHRO CEO on Historic Infrastructure Bill
On September 9, NAHRO Interim CEO Mike Gerber released the following statement on the reconciliation bill.
“NAHRO commends the historic investments in housing and community development programs introduced today. If passed, these funds will help ensure affordable homes for current and future generations.
“NAHRO has advocated for these investments in our nation’s critical housing infrastructure for decades. The $80 billion in Public Housing preservation funding is a direct result of NAHRO calling attention to the $70+ billion Public Housing Capital Fund backlog of needed repairs in 2019. NAHRO and our nearly 20,000 members have been longtime supporters of the legislation that shaped this proposal, Chairwoman Waters’ Housing is Infrastructure Act – from our testimony at the first Financial Services Committee hearing on the initial draft in 2018 to our most recent testimony earlier this year.
“In August, NAHRO members sent more than 43,000 letters supporting housing investments, and NAHRO has been heard! We will continue to put pressure on Congress and the White House to approve this legislation that invests in local communities and provides housing for millions of families. NAHRO thanks Chairwoman Waters and her staff for their tireless support for public housing and community development.”
