NAHRO Honors Rep. Diaz-Balart with Legislator of the Year Award
(Washington, D.C. – March 3, 2021)– On Wednesday, March 3, The National Association of Housing and Redevelopment Officials (NAHRO) is honoring Congressman Mario Diaz-Balart with the Legislator of the Year award at an online ceremony during the association’s Online Washington Conference.
Rep. Diaz-Balart (R-FL) serves as the ranking Republican member on the Transportation, Housing and Urban Development Appropriation Subcommittee. He has supported HUD funding and worked to maintain and upgrade the country’s roadways, seaports, transit systems and airports to further invest in community and infrastructure development.
“I am honored to be recognized by the National Association of Housing and Redevelopment Officials (NAHRO) with the Legislator of the Year award,” Congressman Mario Diaz-Balart said. “As former chairman and now ranking member of the Transportation, Housing and Urban Development Appropriations Subcommittee, I have secured billions of federal dollars to support affordable housing initiatives and community development programs for vulnerable Americans. As our nation continues to tackle the damaging impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, I will continue to work diligently to ensure American families have a place to call home. I thank the National Association of Housing and Redevelopment Officials for this prestigious award, and I applaud their tireless work in advocating for our nation’s housing programs.”
NAHRO’s Legislator of the Year Award honors members of Congress who are strong advocates for housing and community development programs and for the NAHRO members who administer them.
“We’re very pleased to honor Rep. Diaz-Balart,” NAHRO President Sunny Shaw said. “Public housing agencies nationwide especially appreciate his commitment to housing in the face of potentially crippling budget cuts. And his continued support is greatly needed as our nation continues to contend with the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.”
