City of Wichita Housing Authority Wins Award of Excellence for Resident and Client Services
(Washington D.C.-Nov. 17, 2020)- The City of Wichita’s Housing Authority (WHA) summer youth employment program is a 2020 recipient of the Award of Excellence for Resident and Client Services by the National Association of Housing and Redevelopment Officials (NAHRO).
“This year’s award-winning agencies have given us innovative local solutions for increasing affordable housing stock and improving the lives of their residents,” NAHRO President Sunny Shaw said. “I am excited to honor them for their excellence.”
In 2019, WHA collaborated with its partners to establish the Helping Youth Prepare for Employment program. The goal of the program is to assist teens and young adults prepare for employment. HYPE is a result of working with four local groups in Wichita who leveraged services to ensure success of the youth participants. Last year, HYPE served 3,252 area youth with 1,210 finding employment with over 200 employers. Total wages earned by HYPE participants more than $1.4 million.
