Housing Authority City of San Buenaventura Wins Award of Excellence for Project Design
(Washington D.C.-Nov. 17, 2020)- The Housing Authority City of San Buenaventura (HACSB) is a 2020 recipient of the Award of Excellence for Project Design from the National Association of Housing and Redevelopment Officials (NAHRO) for constructing Rancho Verde, an energy-efficient multi-family development for farmworker households.
“This year’s award-winning agencies have given us innovative local solutions for increasing affordable housing stock and improving the lives of their residents,” NAHRO President Sunny Shaw said. “I am excited to honor them for their excellence.”
Rancho Verde is a newly constructed Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Platinum certified developed by the Housing Authority City of San Buenaventura (HACSB). In response to the shortage of safe and affordable housing for farmworkers, the apartments available at Rancho Verde are a mix of one to four-bedroom units spread across 11 residential buildings organized around a common area with courtyards. The project’s energy source is 80% offset by on-site solar and a Greywater system conserves water usage. The project serves a need for a lack of affordable for housing for farmworkers in the county.
“NAHRO members have always been in the business of providing homes and improving lives – these awards commemorate shining examples of the vital work they do nationwide,” NAHRO CEO Adrianne Todman said. “My sincere congratulations to this year’s winners.”
