#HousersAtWork Stories

In July 2020, NAHRO launched the #HousersAtWork campaign to spotlight and recognize the work of our member public housing agencies as they responded to the COVID-19 health crisis. What started as a way to amplify stories of our members persevering during unprecedented times has expanded to more than 180 that highlight the everyday ways that you strive to better the lives of your residents and staff.

NAHRO is reminded again and again of the work our dedicated #Housers are doing day in and day out. We have thoroughly enjoyed sharing your stories with both our membership and a wider audience through our various social media platforms.

With the increased access to vaccines and the country beginning to reopen, now (May 2021) is an appropriate time to close the #HousersAtWork campaign. We will continue to highlight the good work of our members on our website and on our various social media accounts including on Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, and Instagram.

Housing Authority of Savannah

The Housing Authority of Savannah is partnering with several organizations to bring recreation, wellness, and educational opportunities to residents.

Housing Authority for the City of Pueblo

Thanks to a partnership with Johnson Controls and GRID the Housing Authority for the City of Pueblo can provide residents with affordable renewable energy with a new solar garden.

McAllen Housing Authority

Thanks to the McAllen Housing Authority for delivering “home libraries” to students at the Vine Terrace development. Books were donated by the South Texas Literacy Coalition to promote literacy.

Housing Authority of the City of Pittsburgh

The Housing Authority of the City of Pittsburgh hosted the grand opening of Liberty Green, Pittsburgh’s newest playground. It’s part of a larger redevelopment effort with an ongoing Choice Neighborhoods Initiative and a NAHRO Award of Excellence winner.

Fargo Housing & Redevelopment Authority

The Fargo Housing & Redevelopment Authority partnered with The Medicine Shoppe to give more than 150 senior residents the Covid-19 vaccine.

Housing Authority of the City of Pittsburgh

Thanks to the Housing Authority of the City of Pittsburgh for launching a new program called Year Up Pittsburgh, which offers residents six months of technical and professional skills training followed by an internship.

Opelika Housing Authority

The Opelika Housing Authority partnered with the East Alabama Medical Center to host free community vaccination drives at their properties for the next two weeks.

Housing Authority of the City of Elizabeth

The Housing Authority of the City of Elizabeth Jobs Plus Team helped host a fun Easter event last week! Residents were provided info on the Jobs Plus program and the Elizabeth Public Library helped to provide each child with a craft kit.
