August Advocacy: Take Action on HOME!
Welcome to Week Two of our August Advocacy push! Last week we focused on asking our Congressional representatives to join the Public Housing Caucus. This week, we're concentrating on funding for a valuable affordable housing production program: HOME.
The HOME program is the only federal program dedicated solely to the production and preservation of affordable housing. It’s a critical funding stream that is used as both primary funding for housing projects and gap financing in conjunction with other federal programs like the Low-Income Housing Tax Credit. Unfortunately, funding for HOME in FY 2019 is at risk: while the Senate-approved Transportation, Housing and Urban Development (THUD) spending bill maintains current funding levels for HOME, the House-proposed THUD bill cuts funding by $162 million. Please take action today to urge Congress to adopt the Senate-approved funding level for the HOME Investment Partnerships program and to reject the cuts proposed by the House.
August recess is now in full swing, but we are well short of meeting our goal to send 3,000 letters to Congress in August. Reach out to your legislators today -- tell them to support the Senate-approved funding level for HOME!
